Refusing To Drink Alcohol - Why It INFURIATES Some People!

I've had so many times in my life, since I stopped drinking alcohol, where someone has said something about what I'm doing, about my choices, and why I'm either wrong or "poor me" because I can't go out and have a few pints any more. Even now, after 11 years, when it's clear how much that one decision has massively benefited my life, I still have to listen to nonsense from some people - albeit only rarely - thankfully.
I get where people are coming from. I don't blame them. I was in that exact same position myself on more than one occasion.
Here's a quote that I think captures the essence of the delusion nicely:
"Above all, don't lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others." Dostoevsky - The Brothers Karamazov
It can be difficult to see the truth when you're caught up so deeply in your own lies. Projecting those delusions onto other people is a symptom of the problem and a cause for deep and often unconscious personal distress.
